Timeless Style, Thoughtfully Made
For women who value quality, not quantity – effortless style meets responsible production.
Our Story
At Mazu, we create timeless clothing with purpose — a slower, more thoughtful approach to fashion.
Founder and designer Rene Aveyard launched Mazu with a deep commitment to quality, simplicity, and conscious craftsmanship. Each piece is designed to last, made for women who value elegance without excess.
Born and raised in South Africa, Rene began her career in investment banking before following her true calling. After years living and travelling abroad, she settled in New Zealand, studied fashion, and co-owned a clothing store in Cambridge for a decade. In 2020, she launched Mazu to fully express her creative vision.
Rene’s designs celebrate the female form — refined silhouettes made with intention and care. Her belief in slow fashion is central: no trends, no overproduction, no waste. Just beautifully made garments that stand the test of time.
The name Mazu draws from multiple cultures — a Chinese sea goddess and a Japanese word meaning “first” or “in the first place.” It reflects our grounding in strength, calm, and considered beginnings.
Our Pima cotton T-shirts are ethically made in Peru using Oeko-Tex certified fabrics. The wider collection is crafted in small batches with trusted makers who share our values.
Every Mazu piece is designed to be worn, loved, and kept. It’s fashion with integrity — elegant, feminine, and made to move with you through life.
